FOOD stores are all on North Caicos on the main road as you drive down. Stocks do vary but the store at Mydees usually has a well stocked freezer for meat and fish as well as vegetables and other staple goods such as milk, eggs and butter. Wine and beer is available at the liquor store next door.At Mydees they can take credit cards but be prepared for cash transactions on the islands. Before you get to Bottle Creek (you will see large yellow school bus on your right) is another store for vegetables and tinned goods. Trying each out for items is a good idea as stock can be out in one and there be plenty in another. We call it Island Life! We suggest you buy bottled water in large five gallon containers as water in the Eyrie is rain water with filtration which does not suit everyone even after boiling and filtering it as we do.
FRESH VEGETABLES- These are often available in the above stores but really fresh goods can sometimes be purchased at the Government Farm. This may be struggling in 2018 as it was very badly damaged by the hurricane but is a great place to visit if it is open. To get there you need to turn right at the main junction with the big church that you will come to about five minutes after leaving the North Caicos Ferry. Follow the signs to Wades Plantation (a wonderful place to visit if you have time and there is a national trust guardian with the key at the entrance). The farm is on the left just before the plantation entrance. Ask the farmer what he has today and he will put you together a bag of what is fresh and accept a modest cash payment. All these funds stay local and support enterprise and sustainable farming practices. The islands of North and Middle work together and are joined by a magnificent causeway but currently the shops are all on North so stock up before your drive across to Middle Caicos.
Eating out inevtiably comes with a beach location and an amazing view. Currently on North there are several choices, The Barracuda on Pelican Beach , Last Chance Cafe just before the causeway are two but check the main road for adverts and the various cafes you see as you drive down to Bambarra. On Middle we have the amazing Mujadin Harbour with its bar and grill. You will see signs for Blue Horizon and the Grill as you reach Middle . Opening times vary, lunch comes with a stunning view (see below). They have a web site that may give more information and they use local produce to provide a wonderful meal in a unique location.
